This VR application was developed for Meta Quest 3 using Unity and the XR Interaction Toolkit. It consists of three interactive training simulators designed to improve the safety and efficiency of cargo terminal operations at APM Terminals. The simulation takes place in a 3D environment based on the actual layout of the terminal, extracted from satellite imagery on Google Maps. One of the main technical challenges of the project was optimizing performance while maintaining a large environment.
This simulator focuses on training operators in placing and removing the metal rods that secure containers. It emphasizes correct tool handling and adherence to safety protocols for efficient and secure container operations.
In this module, operators are lifted in a safety cage above stacked containers to unlock twistlocks. The simulation involves navigating tight spaces between containers and practicing proper unlocking procedures at height. It reinforces spatial awareness and safety in high-risk scenarios.
This module trains inspectors to evaluate the condition of ship gangways. Users go through various scenarios to identify potential hazards and classify gangways according to safety standards. It builds decision-making skills and promotes compliance with inspection protocols.
